THURSDAY—On Monday Holly, her friend Will, and I went to the Seattle Museum of Art. Part of the collection of Helene Droller-Muller was on display, and included 11 original Vincent Van Gogh paintings! They were:
1. Pine Tree at Sunset – 1889
2. Tree Trunks in the Grass –1890
3. Portrait of Joseph Roulen – 1889
4. La Berceuse – 1889 (Joseph Roulen' wife)
5. Sorrowing Old Man – 1890
6. The Good Samaritan – 1890
7. Self Portrait – 1887 (This is the famous one) “If I were not as I am, I should not paint, but being as I am, I often work with pleasure.” VVG
8. The Garden of the Asylum at Saint Remy – 1889 “A bush of roses, pale in the cool shadows.” VVG
9. Still Life with a Plate of Onions – 1889
10. Olive Grove – 1889 (Jude’s favorite—but it was hard to choose—of those on display) “I picked a hundred flies off the canvas.” VVG
11. Café Terrace at Night – 1888 (This is the famous one) “One can make a poem only by arranging colors.” VVG

Jude spent over 3 hours taking in these paintings and came out of the museum a better person than when she entered.

Also on display were paintings by Pablo Picasso, Diego Rivera, and Piet Mondrian.

Those of us who were fortunate to see the paintings, how fortunate we were.
