The Crew goes to Bodega Bay often, but this time we went with geocaching in mind and thought we'd take you along with us--at least in pics. This is as close as we could drive to the "Big View" geocache site. The satellites told Miss GPS we needed to cross this bluff overlooking the ocean to find the cache. BTW, this cache is rated a 2 in difficulity to find (1=easiest & 5=hardest) and a 2 in terrain (1=easiest & 5=hardest).
At first we thought we could see this trailhead sign from the parking lot, but we were wrong. So it was more huffing and puffing over the next hill, but eventually Miss GPS said we'd arrived. We looked all around, but couldn't find the cache, so we sat for awhile and watched the ocean. Then decoded the clue "driftwood, not firewood" and looked some more.
Then we spied these rocks and felt we were onto something. We looked in all the nooks and crannies and finally we saw. . .
. . .a piece of driftwood.
The maker of this cache had hollowed out a piece of driftwood so that it concealed a film canister with the log book inside. What was really interesting about this site was that The Crew has walked past it many times before we were into geocaching on our way to watch sunsets at Horseshoe Cove Lookout.
This is the "Big View." Notice the ant-like cars in the parking lot on the left side of the pic. The Nomad is down there patiently waiting for us. Now you've gone with us from one end to the other of a geocache. We hope you had fun.
