The Crew goes to Bodega Bay often, but this time we went with geocaching in mind and thought we'd take you along with us--at least in pics.
This is as close as we could drive to the "Big View" geocache site. The satellites told Miss GPS we needed to cross this bluff overlooking the ocean to find the cache. BTW, this cache is rated a 2 in difficulity to find (1=easiest & 5=hardest) and a 2 in terrain (1=easiest & 5=hardest).
At first we thought we could see this trailhead sign from the parking lot, but we were wrong. So it was more huffing and puffing over the next hill, but eventually Miss GPS said we'd arrived. We looked all around, but couldn't find the cache, so we sat for awhile and watched the ocean. Then decoded the clue "driftwood, not firewood" and looked some more.
Then we spied these rocks and felt we were onto something. We looked in all the nooks and crannies and finally we saw. . .
. . .a piece of driftwood.
The maker of this cache had hollowed out a piece of driftwood so that it concealed a film canister with the log book inside. What was really interesting about this site was that The Crew has walked past it many times before we were into geocaching on our way to watch sunsets at Horseshoe Cove Lookout.
This is the "Big View." Notice the ant-like cars in the parking lot on the left side of the pic. The Nomad is down there patiently waiting for us. Now you've gone with us from one end to the other of a geocache. We hope you had fun.
This is a tribute to Nicholas Green, an 8 year old boy who was shot by highway robbers while visiting Italy with his parents in 1994. His donated organs gave 7 dying Italians life. Individual families and school children bought bells to honor Nicholas and his gift.
The Children's Bell Monument is located behind the Community Center in Bodega Bay. There's also a geocache in the trees by the monument. Pixie and Jude were having a race. Pixie to click the shutter and Jude to get in the frame. Who do you vote for for the win?
There were hundreds of vultures circling along the edge of Bodega Harbor enjoying a mouse-or-other-little-beastie feast.
Caught more pieces of blue, blue sky than frames filled with vultures.
This heron was about five feet high--an this was as close as we got before it took flight.
The Crew managed the perfect getaway today. No one was at the stickhouse, so no one knew we were escaping. This is the "washboard" blue sky in SacTown, a balmy 71 degrees, on Hwy. 50.
The higher we climbed the Sierras, the colder, cloudier, and grayer it got. Absolutely great MADDOG Adventure weather.
On the shores of South Lake Tahoe. 43 degrees, stormy clouds overhead and a gray lake. Fortunately, Jude keeps winter gear in The Nomad, or she would've been cold because The Crew would've made her walk along the lake anyway.
There were plenty of Canadian Geese enjoying the lake this day, whether in the water, on land, or flying overhead. Canadian Geese make Canadian Goose POO, so the walk went something like this: Hop. Jump. Squish.
The Crew loves the colder weather, so this day turned out to be the perfect Great Escape!
