Maddogs On The Road

Yesterday, The Crew fled the Sactown furnace with a vision of cool ocean. We decided on San Francisco because it is closer than Bodego Bay. What we didn't know was the Gay Pride Parade was in full swing. So we took in the sights, people, and festivities.

Enjoyed some churches. Doesn't the steeple on that one look like a washing machine agitator?

Then it was on to the ocean. Yes, that man did manage to ride his bike in the surf.

Road Trippin'

Got away! Got away! Got away on down the road!

After the Sacramento Valley Rose meeting on Saturday, the Crew discovered Jude had FREE TIME -- so it was off to Bodego Bay.

And as usual, Jude got us lost. Fortunately the Nomad knows his way around, so we just kept heading west into the sunset and eventually came to the ocean.

Bodego Bay. And perfect days in the 50s. The wind blew hard, but the Nomad kept us snug. And just like the cage-less birdie in the pics, this outing washed the stuck-in-one-place gunk from our wings.

Meet the Klop Wop Cop

Town of Clarksburg. The main intersection. Speed limit 35mph. This car has been sitting for days and days. Never moving. Collecting dust and bird poop. It isn't even very shiny anymore.

Is it a Speed Trap? A revenue booster?

No! It's the Klop Wop Cop! The Crew affectionately refers to him as Bob.

The Mary MacGregor

Yesterday on the river, The Crew met Jim. He bought this boat 5 years ago for $1000 and has been working on it ever since. The Mary MacGregor (reflecting his Scottish heritage) is a World War II naval landing craft built in 1943. It was intended to be a part of landings (like the invasion of Normandy), but was never put into service. Jim added on the house and structure, and expects to be working on the craft until he dies. As he says, "You only get one life, so you might as well spend it doing what makes you happy."

Ben turns 30!

Jude's 2nd baby-not turned 30 on June 6, 2006.
Way too too many cute pic to put here, so here's a limited selection. (Bear in mind that Jude actually LIKES home movies.)
Well, BLOGGER has been having a problem all week and Jude has been unable to post. It appears the problem is still going on, so hopefully this post will come through when divided in two...

Book Signing minus the Signing

Yesterday Benjamin and Jude went to a book signing at Borders. Lee Child (of the Jack Reacher series) was the author or honor. Jude sat with the crowd and Ben read magazines. Afterward when Jude couldn't find Ben, she sat in a chair (that's like hugging a tree when a hiker is lost--so they don't get more lost) and read until Ben found her.

Jude did NOT succumb to a purchase. Her theory is less stuff = more freedom. And freedom is what she's after. Jude gets her books from the library, and if she's really desperate, she goes to Borders and reads the new releases there. She sometimes buys from a used bookstore, reads them, then sells them back.

Many years ago, she packed up most of her books and donated them to the library, figuring if she really missed a book, she could always check it out. Truth is, the only book she missed was Laurel's Kitchen, which she did check out a few times.

On that note, she divided up the family photos, made albums and gave them to the baby-nots last X-mas. And she also switched from paper journals to blogs. Stores photos on the blog (no hard copies). Stopped all magazine subscriptions. Refuses to buy magazines. Tells the baby-nots she only wants consumable gifts (like printer paper, toner, natural soaps & toothpaste, sunscreen etc.) The more stuff she gets rid of, the freer she is. Woo-woo. One day she may spout wings and fly away.
